Walks in the park
The outing is the main event. Path, trees, weather, and home again. Fallen leaves are welcome, but the walk itself is the point.
In the park
He loves a walk, and every squirrel along the way.
Field notes
Floki is a mix of miniature schnauzer, dachshund, poodle, and chihuahua. None of them got the deciding vote. The coat went scruffy, the ears went their own way, and the whole dog went to the park.
A walk is the standing plan. A squirrel is the reason to hurry. In this picture the ginkgo had already dropped, and he sat down in the middle of it — tongue out, lead trailing off through the yellow — as if the chase could wait one minute.

A squirrel in the park is not scenery. It is an invitation, and Floki is glad to accept it for as far as a walk will allow.
